Hongchi Xiao, 61, was convicted of gross negligence manslaughter after a four week trial at Winchester Crown Court. Xiao promoted paida and lajin – slapping and stretching – therapy as an alternative to Western medicine.
Mrs Carr-Gomm had sought alternative treatment for her Type 1 diabetes and attended a residential slapping therapy workshop taught by Xiao. She stopped taking her insulin, became gravely ill and subsequently died from diabetic ketoacidosis.
Xiao, from Cloudbreak, California, will be sentenced on 1 October.
