The Court of Appeal (Criminal Division) has dismissed an appeal by former nurse Colin Campbell, previously known as Colin Norris. Campbell was convicted in 2008 of the murder of four elderly patients and the attempted murder of a further patient in his care by the injection of insulin. Campbell sought to argue that developments in medical understanding of hypoglycaemia rendered his convictions unsafe. The CCRC referred the case to the Court of Appeal in 2021. Giving the judgment of the Court, Macur LJ, Sir Stephen Irwin and Picken J concluded that there was no doubt about the safety of any of the five convictions.
James Curtis KC and Sahil Sinha appeared for the Crown.
