Man convicted of conspiring to commit FGM and forced marriage outside of England and Wales

In a rare prosecution for female genital mutilation (FGM), Emad Kaky has been found guilty of arranging for a young girl to travel to Iraq where he had agreed for her to be subjected to FGM and forced into marriage. He was prosecuted under s1A of the Criminal Law Act 1977, which criminalises certain conspiracies that are to take place overseas.
