Virginia McCullough, 36 from Chelmsford was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 36 years after she pleaded guilty to murdering Lois and John McCullough, aged 71 and 70, in their family home in June 2019.
After stealing significant sums of money from them, McCullough poisoned both her parents with prescription medication she had horded, and stabbed her mother to death when she survived the poisoning. She then buried the bodies in the home address, and kept up the pretence that they were alive for four years.
After their deaths McCullough ran up large debts on credit cards in her parents’ names, and spent their pensions and other benefits.
Peter Ratliff, led by Lisa Wilding KC from 23ES, represented the Crown, instructed by the CPS.
