Haybe Cabdiraxmaan Nur has been sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 24 years and 191 days in the Crown Court at Derby following his guilty plea to the murder of Gurvinder Johal. The Court heard that Nur had armed himself with a knife and entered a busy city centre bank, randomly selecting Gurvinder Johal and plunging the knife into his chest in a very public killing. Nur had made threats to kill himself and others earlier in the day after expressing frustration for the support he had received as an asylum seeker in the UK.
Louis Mably KC and Sahil Sinha appeared for the Crown, instructed by the Crown Prosecution Service.
