Pret a Manger allergy inquest

The inquest touching on the death of Mrs Celia Marsh begins today before HM Senior Coroner Maria Voisin at Avon Coroners’ Court.

Mrs Marsh died following a suspected anaphylactic reaction shortly after eating a Superveg Rainbow Wrap bought from a Pret store in Bath. The wrap was made with a dairy-free coconut yoghurt, CoYo, supplied by Planet Coconut Ltd. Subsequent testing of CoYo showed trace levels of milk protein to which Mrs Marsh was severely allergic.

Related criminal proceedings concluded with the prosecution offering no evidence following applications by both companies to dismiss the charges.

Adam Payter represents Pret. He is led by Jonathan Laidlaw QC (2 Hare Court) and instructed by Richard Welfare and Helen Boniface (Hogan Lovells International LLP).
